Help shape the future of surgical care education and scientific engagement across the United States, Quebec, and Ontario.We are seeking an entrepreneurial, relationship-driven Medical Affairs & Education Manager to build and lead our Key Opinion Leader (KOL) engagement strategy for surgical drainage therapy. This is a unique opportunity to become the architect of our Key Opinion Leader (KOL) strategy for Surgical Care across the United States, Quebec, and Ontario. Rather than stepping into an established program, you will play a pivotal role in identifying, developing, and expanding a high-impact network of thoracic and cardiac surgery thought leaders who will help shape the future of surgical drainage therapy.The ideal candidate has a proven track record of developing KOL partnershipsand managing scientific events from concept through execution, including educational programs, symposia, and major medical congresses. Working closely with Clinical Affairs and cross-functional teams, you will translate scientific evidence into impactful educational initiatives while representing the company with credibility and professionalism.This is a highly visible, field-based role requiring 40–50% travel throughout the United States, Quebec, and Ontario to build relationships with healthcare professionals, support scientific meetings, and expand our presence within the surgical community.If you are passionate about building influential professional KOL networks, leading scientific education initiatives, and helping shape the future of surgical drainage therapy, we'd love to hear from you.What Medela Offers Our Medical Affairs Education Manager, SurgicalComprehensive benefits plan401K with matchMoney Purchase Plan16-week Paid Parental LeaveGenerous PTO package, including 14 paid holidaysA great place to work!Salary starting at $140K plus bonusWhat You’ll Do (Medical Affairs & Education Manager, Surgical)KOL & Scientific EngagementBuild and maintain strategic relationships with thoracic and cardiac surgery KOLs across the U.S. and CanadaEngage surgeons and healthcare professionals as speakers, advisors, and scientific collaboratorsServe as a liaison between Clinical Affairs and external experts to facilitate scientific exchange and insight gatheringDevelop long-term partnerships with professional societies and healthcare stakeholdersSupport awareness initiatives focused on improving patient outcomes through chest drainage managementScientific Communication & EducationDeliver evidence-based medical and scientific education through presentations, webinars, roundtables, interviews, and scientific eventsOrganize and lead scientific symposia and educational programs, including participation in major congresses such as AATS and STSPrepare scientific moderation materials, event agendas, and educational strategies aligned with organizational goalsSummarize and communicate key scientific insights and congress learnings to internal stakeholdersCollaborate closely with Marketing, Communications, and Global Medical Affairs teams while maintaining strict compliance boundaries between Medical Affairs and SalesMedical & Clinical SupportRespond to scientific inquiries with accurate, compliant, and timely medical informationSupport quality improvement initiatives and help define clinical and scientific endpointsAssist with scientific literature reviews, publications, and medical writing activitiesPartner with Clinical Affairs on investigator-initiated studies and research-related requestsMaintain awareness of evolving clinical evidence, competitive developments, and emerging scientific trendsWhat We’re Looking ForQualifications (Medical Affairs Education Manager, Surgical)Advanced degree in life sciences, nursing, medicine, or related healthcare field preferredBCMAS and/or MSL-BC certification is highly advantageousStrong understanding of scientific and clinical terminology within hospital or surgical environmentsExcellent presentation, communication, and relationship management skillsAbility to engage senior surgeons and healthcare professionals with credibility and professionalismStrong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple prioritiesProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and OutlookFluent English required; French language skills highly desiredExperience (Medical Affairs Education Manager, Surgical)2–5 years of experience in Medical Affairs, Clinical Affairs, healthcare education, or MedTech industry rolesStrong experience working with KOLs, scientific events, and educational programsBackground in thoracic, cardiac, critical care, or hospital-based environments is highly desirableExperience moderating scientific roundtables, symposiums, or educational eventsFamiliarity with scientific literature research, publications, and evidence-based communicationExperience working within global or cross-functional organizations preferredAdditional DetailsTravel 40%-50%, including occasional international travelCoverage includes the United States and Canada, including Quebec and OntarioMust comply with all credentialing and hospital/vendor access requirementsAt Medela, we are guided by our mission to turn science into care to nurture health for generations in everything we do.
