Role Summary:

The Volunteer Accountant (Form 990 Experience) will support the Foundation’s financial management, reporting, and compliance activities, with a particular focus on nonprofit accounting and IRS Form 990 requirements. This role helps ensure financial accuracy, transparency, and regulatory compliance while strengthening the organization's operational effectiveness and long-term sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain and review financial records to ensure accuracy and compliance with nonprofit accounting standards.
• Assist with the preparation, review, and filing support of IRS Form 990 and related documentation.
• Support budgeting, financial reporting, and reconciliation processes across organizational programs.
• Monitor financial transactions and help ensure compliance with applicable nonprofit regulations and reporting requirements.
• Collaborate with leadership and operations teams to improve financial processes, controls, and reporting practices.

Requirements:

• Background in accounting, finance, or a related field.
• Experience in nonprofit accounting and financial reporting.
• Experience preparing, reviewing, or supporting IRS Form 990 filings.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

Preferred Skills:

• Familiarity with nonprofit financial management, compliance, and grant reporting.
• Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks or similar financial systems.
• Knowledge of U.S. nonprofit regulations and financial reporting standards.
• Experience working on nonprofit, environmental, or impact-driven projects.
