Art Teacher Position Summary Christo Rey Jesuit seeks an innovative, student-centered Art Teacher to inspire creativity, technical skill, and artistic expression in a diverse college preparatory environment. This educator will teach visual arts courses at both the junior and senior grade levels. The successful candidate will have considerable skill in designing curriculum, identifying artistic skills and techniques to emphasize, and in helping build engaging, rigorous fine arts curricula that reflect both the Jesuit tradition of “Finding God in All Things” and the school's overarching mission of forming Men and Women for Others. Key Responsibilities Teach multiple levels of visual arts courses for students in grades 11-12. Develop engaging lessons through a culturally relevant lens that engage predominantly first generation, low-income students and that foster creativity, artistic confidence, and technical proficiency. Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with varying artistic backgrounds and abilities. Assess student learning through portfolios, projects, critiques, exhibitions, and other authentic measures. Set and maintain high academic standards for all students, all in the context of an organized, safe, and welcoming studio environment. Adhere to mastery-based grading policy; update grades in a timely manner, according to department and administration requirements. Build an appropriate level of trust and rapport with students; redirect student behavior as needed. School Year Book The art teacher is responsible for leading and guiding the development, publication and distribution of the annual school yearbook. The art teacher will incorporate the development and publication of year book into class curriculum, actively engaging student participation in the process. Student Development Encourage students to develop both artistic skill and creative confidence. Prepare interested students for college portfolios, competitions, exhibitions, and scholarships. Foster collaboration, creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Celebrate student work through displays, exhibitions, and community showcases. Collaboration Commit to our mission to inspire and prepare students of limited economic resources to succeed in college and lead their communities as compassionate, committed, and competent men and women for others for the greater glory of God. Participate in the school community through supervision duties, retreats, and special events. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and school leaders to improve student learning, participating in professional development, and providing and receiving feedback from school leaders. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and school leaders to integrate visual arts across academic disciplines where appropriate. Participate fully in faculty meetings, professional development, retreats, and school activities. Support the mission of Cristo Rey Jesuit through active participation in school life. Foster relationships with families and communicate effectively to address student challenges, concerns, and successes. Educational Requirements and Experience Bachelor's Degree is required; a Master's Degree is preferred. Bachelor's Degree in the content area and at least 12 credit hours in education. State of Texas Teacher's Certification strongly preferred (Candidates without state certification must complete state certification within the first two years of employment.) 3-5 years teaching experience in marginalized communities is preferred. Proficiency in Spanish is preferred.
